Lloyd Named National Player of the Year Finalist

PISCATAWAY, NJ – Rutgers senior Carli Lloyd (Delran, NJ) has been named one of 12 finalists for the 2004 Soccerbuzz National Player-of-the-Year Award.
Lloyd, the 2004 BIG EAST Conference Midfielder of the Year who also became the first Scarlet Knight to earn first-team all-BIG EAST honors four times during her career (2001-2004), ended the season with 21 points (10 g, 1 a) to finish her career as Rutgers' all-time leader in points (117) and goals (50). The three-time All-American also was a three-time member of the U.S. Under-21 National Team, helping lead the U.S. to three consecutive Nordic Cup titles. In addition to being considered for the Soccerbuzz honor, Lloyd also has been named a semifinalist for the Hermann Trophy, the official National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) national player-of-the-year award.
Lloyd trained with the full National Team last spring, attending training sessions April 21, May 11-15 and May 24-June 4.
Rutgers finished the season with a 9-10-1 mark overall and a 4-5-1 record in conference play, advancing to the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Tournament.
