PISCATAWAY, NJ – Rutgers senior Carli Lloyd (Delran, NJ) has been named a semifinalist for the 2004 Hermann Trophy, given annually to the women’s soccer national player of the year.
Lloyd, the 2004 BIG EAST Conference Midfielder of the Year who also became the first Scarlet Knight to earn first-team all-BIG EAST honors four times during her career (2001-2004), ended the season with 21 points (10 g, 1 a) to finish her career as Rutgers' all-time leader in points (117) and goals (50). The three-time All-American also was a three-time member of the U.S. Under-21 National Team, helping lead the U.S. to three consecutive Nordic Cup titles.
Lloyd also trained with the full National Team last spring, attending training sessions April 21, May 11-15 and May 24-June 4.
The Missouri Athletic Club’s Hermann Trophy serves as the official National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) national player-of-the-year award. Three male and female finalists will be announced at the NCAA Men’s College Cup in December. The winners will be announced Jan. 7, 2005.
Rutgers finished the season with a 9-10-1 mark overall and a 4-5-1 record in conference play, advancing to the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Tournament.
