Rutgers Women's Basketball Picked 17th in Preseason Poll

PISCATAWAY, NJ – The Rutgers women’s basketball team was rated 17th in the Associated Press Preseason Top 25 Poll, the group announced.
Rutgers has been a familiar member of the preseason top 25 rankings, as the Scarlet Knights have been singled out by eight different groups. RU was picked fifth by Women’s Basketball Magazine, eighth by Street & Smith’s, ninth by Slam Magazine, 11th by Lindy’s, 17th by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA)/ESPN/USA Today and the Associated Press, 19th by Athlon Sports and 24th by Basketball Times.
The 2004-2005 Scarlet Knights will host exhibition games Nov. 10 and Nov. 18 before officially kicking off the regular season Nov. 20 at home against Rider. Last season, Rutgers (21-12, 10-6 BIG EAST) advanced to its sixth NCAA Championship in the last seven years and finished as the runner-up at the 2004 BIG EAST Championship. C. Vivian Stringer, who will begin her 10th year at the helm of the Rutgers program this fall just five wins shy of her 700th victory, helped lead Team USA to a gold medal as an assistant coach for the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team in Athens.
