Rutgers Women's Basketball Documentary Debuts Dec. 15
Dec 15 | Women's Basketball
PISCATAWAY, NJ - This Is A Game Ladies, a documentary by Partisan Pictures that chronicles the Rutgers women's basketball team during the 2000-2001 season, will make its national television debut on PBS Wednesday, Dec. 15, at 9:00 p.m. EST. Please check your local listings for air times and replay dates.
The two-hour documentary follows the Scarlet Knights throughout the 2000-2001 season, one year removed from Rutgers' first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament Final Four. The piece made its international debut at the AFI/Discovery Silverdocs Film Festival in June of 2003 in Silver Springs, MD, and also appeared at the 2003 Starz Denver International Film Festival, the Ft. Lauderdale Film Festival and the High Falls (Rochester, NY) Film Festival. This Is A Game Ladies won the Audience Award at Silverdocs, and was named Best Documentary at Ft. Lauderdale.
According to Gabriel Wardell of Silverdocs, 'This Is A Game Ladies succeeds on many levels. The outstanding cinematography and energizing music keep pace with the young women of Rutgers. Director Peter Schnall dedicates this story not just to the players and their season, but also to the lady who gives all of her being to the cause. A visionary, a mother and a widow, Coach (C. Vivian) Stringer has overcome insurmountable odds and personal tragedy as she continues to form talented athletes into confident women and committed citizens. Some say that women's basketball is more passionate and unaffected than its male counterpart, and This Is A Game Ladies makes a persuasive case.'
Partisan Pictures, located in New York, NY, has filmed numerous documentaries for National Geographic TV, PBS, the History Channel, BBC, Devillier/Donegan and the Discovery Channel. Partisan founder Peter Schnall, a six-time Emmy winner, served as the director and cinematographer for This Is A Game Ladies.
PBS has established a companion website for the documentary with in-depth and updated information, located at www.pbs.org/thisisagame/. Members of the media interested in receiving an advance copy for review purposes should contact Mary Lugo (770-623-8190; lugo@negia.net).
The 2004-2005 Scarlet Knights (4-1), currently ranked 20th by the Associated Press and 24th by WBCA/ESPN/USA Today in the national polls (Dec. 6), will attempt to give head coach C. Vivian Stringer (699-240) her 700th career victory Wednesday, Dec. 8, when RU hosts Princeton at 7:30 p.m. Last season, Rutgers (21-12, 10-6 BIG EAST) advanced to its sixth NCAA Championship in the last seven years and finished as the runner-up at the 2004 BIG EAST Championship.
