PISCATAWAY, NJ - Jim Carr, former Director of Men's Basketball
Operations at Rutgers University, has been promoted to assistant coach it was
announced today by Scarlet Knight head basketball coach Gary Waters.
Carr's responsibilities will include off-campus recruiting, scouting,
game preparation as well as individual player instruction. Carr began his second
stint at Rutgers in September of 2002, after spending two years as an assistant
coach at Fairleigh Dickinson University. Carr, who had previously served in
the capacity of Director of Men's Basketball Operations at Rutgers from
1997-2000, has an extensive background that includes 15 years of coaching,
administration and recruiting experience at the high school and college levels.
"I am very pleased to elevate Jim Carr into this important position" said
Waters. "Jim's tireless work ethic, loyalty to Rutgers University,
and important local recruiting ties are all key ingredients in this appointment.
Jim is extremely well-respected within the profession, and he truly cares for
and plays an integral role in the lives of our student-athletes.
"In addition, Jim is a terrific ambassador for the University and is
very well thought of by the Rutgers athletic administration," Waters
continued. "When you add all of these qualities together, what you have
is the right person for the right position."
During his tenure as Director of Basketball Operations, Carr's many
duties included serving as the director of The Gary Waters Basketball Camp.
He also served as the liaison between the men's basketball program and
the athletic department in areas such as team travel, facility scheduling for
practice and competition, team and office equipment requirements, and fund-raising
events, among other duties.
From 1992-96, Carr, 35, was the Associate Director/Recruiting Coordinator
for The Hoop Group, the nation's largest basketball camp organization.
While with The Hoop Group, the 1991 York College graduate served as the overall
recruiting coordinator for all camps and clinics including the nationally ranked
Eastern Invitational. Carr also served as an assistant coach at the University
of South Florida in 1996.
A native of Shawnee, Pa., Carr began his coaching career as the athletic director/head
basketball coach at the York (Pa.) Country Day school. At the time of his hiring
in 1989, Carr was one of the youngest A.D./Head Coaches in the country. Carr
has served as an assistant at Kings (Pa.) College and Stroudsburg High School
and was the Assistant Director for the Invitational Basketball Camps in Stroudsburg,
Pa.
