Rutgers Selected Eighth in BIG EAST Volleyball Preseason Poll

PISCATAWAY, NJ - The Scarlet Knights have been selected eighth in the BIG EAST Volleyball Preseason Poll, the league announced today.
Rutgers received 40 points to place eighth in the preseason poll. Notre Dame led all schools with 99 points and nine first-place votes, followed by defending BIG EAST champion Pittsburgh (90, two first-place votes). Connecticut finished in third place with 78 points and St. John's tallied 70 points to finish fourth, while Villanova placed fifth (57), followed by Boston College (50) and Georgetown (42).
Rounding out the preseason ballot is ninth-place Syracuse with 38 points, followed by Seton Hall (20) and West Virginia (17).
RU is coming off a 2003 season in which it finished 11-17 overall and 5-7 in BIG EAST action. The Scarlet Knights will open their 2004 campaign with matches against Penn State, BYU and Quinnipiac, as they are set to participate in the Penn State Invitational on Sept. 3.
