Avner Named to Academic All-District Team

PISCATAWAY, NJ - Rutgers senior midfielder Zoe Avner (Paris, France) has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Women's Soccer Academic All-District 2 Second Team, as selected by the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Avner has started all 63 matches during her three seasons 'On the Banks' , contributing 15 career points (5 g, 5 a). A member of the 2005 Preseason All-BIG EAST Team, she has scored five penalty kick goals this season, adding an assist to rank third in scoring for the Scarlet Knights. A third-team all-BIG EAST selection as a junior in 2004, Avner was named a BIG EAST Academic All-Star in 2004. She spent the summers of 2004 and 2005 playing with the Boston Renegades in the W-League, and was named that team's Most Valuable Player in 2004. Avner is majoring in Italian and sociology at Douglass College.
Student-athletes must be sophomores or older and maintain a minimum 3.20 grade point average in order to be eligible for the Academic All-District Team. Avner is the first Scarlet Knight to receive this award since 2002, when Amy Cuda was a second-team selection.
