Rutgers Edges St. John's 3-2 in Home Finale

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - The Rutgers University volleyball team (10-15, 5-7 BIG EAST) won a hard fought contest against BIG EAST foe St. John's (21-8, 7-5 BIG EAST) on Sunday, Nov. 6 at the College Avenue Gymnasium. The Scarlet Knights edged out the Red Storm by a score of 3-2 (30-25, 24-30, 19-30, 30-17, and 15-11) to close out their regular-season home schedule.
Prior to the match, Rutgers honored its two graduating seniors - Courtney Stout (San Marcos, CA) and Ashleigh Young (Albany, OR).
After taking a 2-1 deficit and facing elimination in game four, the Scarlet Knights rallied to hold the Red Storm to a .073 hitting percentage on 10 attack errors. Rutgers eventually secured its match victory with a Roxy Calder (Oceanside, CA) service ace to end game five.
RU received a balance effort on offense as four Scarlet Knights recorded double-digit kills. Junior Lora Yankauskas (Paramus, NJ) tied for a match-high 23 kills, while freshman Kyra Thompson (Tucson, AZ) and Stout added 12 apiece and sophomore Amanda Meyer (Naperville, IL) had 10. Yankauskas and Thompson also each chipped in a team-best three service aces.
Guiding the Scarlet Knight offense was Calder, who led with 29 assists and junior Tamarie Macon (Fayetteville, NC), who had 23.
Junior Jocelyn Greenwald (Old Tappan, NJ) anchored the Rutgers defense, posting a match-high 19 digs, followed by Thompson with 13 and Stout with 10.
The Scarlet Knights will close out their regular-season schedule on the road, when they take on DePaul on Saturday, Nov. 12 and Notre Dame on Sunday, Nov. 13
