Rutgers Softball Falls to PSU, Temple

CLEARWATER, FL – The Rutgers University softball team (0-10) dropped a pair of games on the third day of competition at the Speedline Invitational in Clearwater, FL, falling to Penn State 10-0 in game one and Temple 9-1 in game two.
The Nittany Lions jumped out to a quick lead, highlighted by a solo homerun from Jenn Reynolds in the second, followed by four-run inning in the third. Reynolds finished two-for-two with three RBI. Senior Stephanie Johannsen (Penn Valley, CA) and sophomore Kristin Madoch (Glenview, IL) recorded the Scarlet Knights’ only two hits of the game. Madoch also ended the game with a stolen base.
In the night cap, Rutgers broke from its pool play to take on Temple University. TU struck first, scoring four runs in the second inning off a bases loaded triple by Brittany Burks to make the score 3-0, followed by an RBI single from Melissa McCartney.
RU put together several runs over the course of the game, but unfortunately came up short in the end. Senior Jenny Card (Miami, FL) got the Scarlet Knights on the board, leading off the bottom of the second inning with a solo shot to center field.
Rutgers will complete play at the Speedline Invitational on Sunday, March 13, as it is scheduled to face BIG EAST foe Villanova at 9:00 a.m.
