Roy, Ressa to Represent RU at NCAA Wrestling Championships

PISCATAWAY, NJ - Rutgers seniors Andy Roy (Wall, NJ) and Chris Ressa (Andover, NJ) will compete at the 75th annual NCAA Wrestling Championships, Thursday-Saturday at the Savvis Center in St. Louis, MO.
Roy became the first Scarlet Knight in the program's history to qualify for the NCAA Championships all four years of his eligibility. He reached the quarterfinals of the consolation bracket last season, falling one victory short of becoming Rutgers' first All-American since Tom Tanis did it in 2000 at 184 pounds. Roy was an EIWA Championship finalist for the third straight season earlier this month. He owns a 22-3 overall record this season and enters the tournament with 98 career victories, which is tied with Tanis (1999-2002) for 10th on the school's all-time wins list.
He earned the seventh seed in this season's NCAA Championships and will receive a bye to the second round where he will face Ron Silva of UC Davis, who also received a first-round bye. Should he advance, it could present an intriguing matchup with the Rutgers wrestler's younger brother, Nick Roy, a junior at the University of Michigan. Nick, who also received a first-round bye, would first have to advance past 10th-seeded E.K. Waldhaus of Oklahoma in the second round.
Ressa earned his first trip to the NCAA Championships after placing third at 184 pounds at the EIWA Championships. He owns a 19-9 record this season and has 79 career victories to place him 21st on the Rutgers all-time wins list.
Ressa received a first-round bye and will face Indiana's Andy Rios in the second round on Thursday. Should Ressa advance, he will face the winner of a second-round matchup between Eastern Michigan's Ed Magrys and second-seeded and second-ranked Kurt Backes of Iowa State.
