PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Rutgers volleyball team (1-2) split its final two matches at the Temple Invitational on Saturday, Aug. 27, in Philadelphia, PA. The Scarlet Knights topped Lehigh 3-0 (30-12, 30-21, 32-30) in the opening match, before falling to host Temple 0-3 (19-30, 17-30, 25-30) in the finale.
In RU’s first match of the day, the Scarlet Knights got out to a strong start, posting an impressive .565 attack percentage on zero attack errors in the opening set.
Junior Lora Yankauskas (Paramus, NJ) recorded a team-high nine kills, followed by senior Courtney Stout (San Marcos, CA) and freshman Kyra Thompson (Tucson, AZ) with eight apiece. Junior Jocelyn Greenwald (Old Tappan, NJ) led with 18 assists and freshman Roxy Calder (Vista, CA) added 11.
Stout also helped steer the defensive charge, tallying a team-high 15 digs and two block assists. Junior Justine Park (Reseda, CA) followed with 10 digs, while sophomore Amanda Meyer (Naperville, IL) also posted two block assists.
Yankauskas led the Scarlet Knights in the evening match against Temple, registering 14 kills and eight digs. Greenwald posted a team-high 25 assists, while Stout added 14 digs. Meyer and senior Ashleigh Young (Albany, OR) each recorded a match-high three block assists to lead the defense.
RU will return to action on Sept. 2-3 at the Maryland Invitational in College Park, MD. Rutgers will face Texas-Arlington at 5:00 p.m. on the first day of competition, followed by matches against host Maryland at 11:00 a.m. and Marshall at 5:30 p.m. on day two.
