Rutgers Football to Begin Preparation for 2005 Campaign
Aug 05 | Football
PISCATAWAY, NJ - The Rutgers University football team will begin preparation for its upcoming season opener on Sept. 3 at Illinois when the Scarlet Knights report on Sunday for the opening of pre-season training camp.
The Scarlet Knights will host their annual Kickoff Celebration on Aug. 14, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the practice field opposite Rutgers Stadium (next to the indoor practice facility, 'The Bubble' ). The Kickoff Celebration starts at 5:00 p.m. and will feature the Rutgers Kids' Zone and performances by the Rutgers Cheer and Dance Teams and the Rutgers Pep Band. All fans will receive a free copy of the 2005 Rutgers Football poster. Food, snacks and beverages will be available for purchase.
Head Coach Greg Schiano and members of the Scarlet Knights will be available to meet fans and sign autographs at the Kickoff Celebration from 6:00-7:00 p.m.
The Scarlet Knights open the season against a Big Ten team for the second consecutive year when they face the Fighting Illini. Last year, Rutgers defeated Michigan State in its season opener before a sold-out Rutgers Stadium. The Scarlet Knights will conduct practice sessions throughout the month of August prior to facing Illinois. Practice sessions are closed to the public.
Following the season opener at Illinois, the Scarlet Knights will make their home debut on Sept. 10 when they host Villanova, the first of six appearances at Rutgers Stadium in 2005. Tickets for that game, and all Rutgers games, are on sale now and can be purchased in person at the Athletic Ticket Office (located inside the Rutgers Athletic Center), via telephone at 1-866-445-GORU (4678) or through the Rutgers official athletics website, www.scarletknights.com.
