MORGANTOWN, WV – The Rutgers University volleyball team (6-8, 1-0 BIG EAST) earned its first BIG EAST victory of the season with a 3-2 (30-24, 30-27, 24-30, 21-30, 15-12) decision against West Virginia University (10-4, 0-1 BIG EAST) on Friday, Sept. 23, at WVU Coliseum.
Leading the Scarlet Knight’s scoring attack was junior Lora Yankauskas (Paramus, NJ) with 19 kills, followed by senior Courtney Stout (San Marcos, CA) and sophomore Amanda Meyer (Naperville, IL) with 12 apiece, while senior Ashleigh Young (Albany, OR) and freshman Kyra Thompson (Tucson, AZ) each added nine kills. Freshman Roxy Calder (Oceanside, CA) posted a team-high 49 assists to round out RU’s offensive effort.
Defensively, junior Jocelyn Greenwald (Old Tappan, NJ) recorded a team-leading 20 digs, followed by Yankauskas with and Stout with 17. Calder chipped in a season-high 16 digs and Thompson had 12. Meyer and Stout helped strengthen the Scarlet Knight’s defensive effort with a team-high four block assists, while Yankauskas and Young each had three.
Rutgers will return to action on Sunday, Sept. 25, when they travel to Pittsburgh, PA, to take on the Pittsburgh Panthers at 2:00 p.m. at the Fitzgerald Field House.
