PITTSBURGH, PA – The Rutgers University volleyball team (6-9, 1-1 BIG EAST) responded after an early loss in game one, by taking the second and third sets, but eventually fell to Pittsburgh (8-7, 1-1 BIG EAST) in five games (25-30, 30-27, 30-24, 22-30, 10-15) on Sunday afternoon at the Fitzgerald Field House.
Rutgers had a strong all-around performance, as five Scarlet Knights posted double figures, including three players with a double-double.
Junior Lora Yankauskas (Paramus, NJ) recorded a team-high 16 kills and 15 digs, freshman Kyra Thompson (Tucson, AZ) had 13 kills and a team-leading 18 digs, while senior Courtney Stout (San Marcos, CA) added 11 kills, 11 digs and four block assists.
Senior Ashleigh Young (Albany, OR) helped guide RU’s offensive attack with 13 kills, as freshman Roxy Calder (Oceanside, CA) finished with a team-high 48 assists.
On the defensive front, sophomore Amanda Meyer (Naperville, IL) registered a career and match-best seven block assists, followed by Yankauskas with three and Calder and Young with two apiece. Junior Jocelyn Greenwald (Old Tappan, NJ) also chipped in 17 digs.
The Scarlet Knights will return to action, as they host Cincinnati at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1, at the College Avenue Gymnasium.
