Rutgers' Lloyd Named to U.S. WNT Training Camp Roster

PISCATAWAY, NJ – Former Rutgers University standout Carli Lloyd (Delran, NJ) will return to training with the U.S. Women’s National Team Oct. 10-16 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA. Head coach Greg Ryan will later name 18-player rosters for two international “friendly” contests against Australia (Oct. 16; Fullerton, CA; ESPN2; 6:00 p.m. ET) and Mexico (Oct. 23; Charleston, SC; ESPN2; 1:00 p.m. ET).
Lloyd earned her first cap with the U.S. Women’s National Team this past summer, playing in the Americans’ 7-0 victory against Ukraine July 10 in Portland, OR. Lloyd entered the match in the 64th minute, her first international appearance with the Full National Team. She nearly had an assist in the closing minute, sending a ball over the top to a streaking Heather O’Reilly, but O’Reilly’s shot missed just wide of the right post.
The midfielder/forward earned her first WNT camp invitations during the summer of 2004, three times joining Team USA at its Olympic Residency Camp.
In July, Lloyd helped lead the U.S. Under-21 National Team to its eighth Nordic Cup title in nine years, including each of the last seven. At the 2005 Cup, held in Karlskoga, Sweden, Lloyd started all four contests and ranked second for the USA with three goals. Considered the premiere international competition for the U-21s, Lloyd helped lead Team USA to the last four Nordic Cup crowns. The midfielder has a total of 15 caps with the U-21s, registering seven goals, and she was one of four “overage” players on the 2005 U.S. roster.
The 2004 BIG EAST Conference Midfielder of the Year, Lloyd also became the first Scarlet Knight to earn first-team all-BIG EAST honors four times during her career (2001-2004). She was named to the Soccerbuzz All-America Second Team, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Mid-Atlantic Region All-Third Team and the Soccerbuzz Mid-Atlantic Region First Team in 2004. She ended the season with 21 points (10 g, 1 a) to finish her career as Rutgers’ all-time leader in points (117) and goals (50). The four-time All-American also was a finalist for the 2004 Soccerbuzz National Player-of-the-Year Award and was named a semifinalist for the Hermann Trophy, the official NSCAA national player-of-the-year award. During her time “On the Banks,” Lloyd helped lead the Scarlet Knights to four BIG EAST Tournament berths and two trips to the NCAA Tournament, including a Sweet Sixteen finish in 2001.
