COLLEGE PARK, MD – The Rutgers volleyball team (2-4) dropped a pair of matches to Maryland 3-0 (20-30, 25-30, 19-30) and Marshall 3-0 (29-31, 23-30, 23-30) on the final day of competition at the Courtyard by Marriott Ft. Meade Invitational on the campus of the University of Maryland on Saturday evening.
In the Scarlet Knights’ first match of the day, senior Courtney Stout (San Marcos, CA) led with 11 kills and 10 digs, followed by junior Lora Yankauskas (Paramus, NJ) with 10 kills and 10 digs. Also posting a double-double for RU was freshman Roxy Calder (Vista, CA), who registered team-highs in both assists and digs. Calder led the squad with 28 assists and 12 digs.
Junior Jocelyn Greenwald (Old Tappan, NJ) and freshman Kyra Thompson (Tucson, AZ) helped round out the defensive effort with 11 and 10 digs, respectively, while senior Ashleigh Young (Albany, OR) tallied a team-leading five block assists.
In the evening match against Marshall, Yankauskas recorded a team-high 10 kills and chipped in six digs. Stout led with 10 digs and six kills, while Calder registered 26 assists and seven digs.
For her efforts, Stout was selected to the Courtyard by Marriott Ft. Meade Invitational All-Tournament team.
Rutgers will travel to Las Vegas, NV, for the UNLV Classic on Friday, Sept. 9 and Saturday, Sept. 10. The Scarlet Knights will go up against Long Beach State on day one, followed by matches against UNLV and Illinois on the final day.
