Rutgers Moves Up Five Spots in Both Polls

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers is ranked No. 19 in this week's USA Today/Coaches Top 25 and Associated Press Top 25 rankings after the Scarlet Knights posted a 34-0 shutout victory at Navy last Saturday. The Scarlet Knights were last ranked in the nation's top 20 on Jan. 4, 1977 at No. 17 in both the coaches' and Associated Press Top 25 rankings.
Rutgers (6-0, 1-0 BIG EAST) is just one of seven undefeated teams in the nation. The Scarlet Knights lead the nation in scoring defense (8.3 ppg) and rank second nationally in total defense (221.3 ypg). In the latest NCAA statistics, Rutgers is ranked in the top 25 in 10 different categories.
Rutgers is first in the BIG EAST in scoring defense, total defense, rushing defense, pass efficiency defense and pass defense.
The Scarlet Knights visit Pittsburgh (6-1, 2-0 BIG EAST) Saturday, Oct. 21 at Heinz Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:45 p.m. on ESPN2.
