PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Rutgers field hockey team (6-11, 1-5 BIG EAST) will close-out its regular season this weekend when the team hosts Cornell (5-8) on Friday, Oct. 27, at 7:30 p.m., and then travels to Princeton (9-6) on Sunday, Oct. 29, at 1:00 p.m.
The Scarlet Knights are coming off a 4-1 loss to Louisville on Oct. 22. Rutgers' Amy Lewis (Hainesport, N.J.) scored the lone goal for the Scarlet Knights in the 4-1 loss. The goal was her team-high 20th of the season. In goal, junior Rosalyn Wentko (Dallas, Pa.) made 11 saves against the Cardinals and was relieved in the second half by freshman Leslie Kelly (Glassboro, N.J.).
Cornell is coming off a 4-3 loss to Syracuse on Oct. 24, while Princeton won a 1-0 decision over American on Oct. 22. Rutgers is 2-2 all-time against Cornell and 3-17-1 all-time against the Tigers.
The Scarlet Knights, under the direction of head coach Liz Tchou, played the season without a single senior on the team's roster, but showed definite promise with several big wins, including victories over Delaware and BIG EAST rival Georgetown. Tchou was proud of her team's effort and growth this season.
"I told the players how proud we are, as a coaching staff, of how much we've improved," she said. "We're learning every game and every week we're getting better. That's a testament to the team on their hard work and dedication week in and week out in practice."
