Rutgers Trio Garner BIG EAST Football Weekly Honors

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Coming off a 24-13 victory over Connecticut on Sunday night, three Rutgers football players were recognized by the BIG EAST Conference as it announced its weekly award winners on Monday. Sophomore defensive end Jamaal Westerman (Brampton, Ontario) was named the league's Defensive Player of the Week, senior punter Joe Radigan (Hoboken, N.J.) was named the BIG EAST Special Teams Player of the Week and sophomore safety Courtney Greene (New Rochelle, N.Y.) earned a spot on the Weekly Honor Roll.
Westerman registered six tackles (four solo), a team-high 2.5 sacks, a forced fumble and a pass breakup in the win. In addition, his blocked punt in the fourth quarter led to a Scarlet Knight touchdown that helped put the game away. The RU defense held the Huskies to just 67 yards passing and posted six sacks.
Radigan punted seven times for a 43.4 average, including a long punt of 52 yards. He placed two punts inside the 20-yard line. For the season, Radigan leads the BIG EAST and is among the national leaders in punting with a 45.5 average. This is his second Special Teams Player of the Week honor of the season and the third of his career.
Greene finished with a game-high 11 tackles for the Scarlet Knights, including a tackle for loss. He served on an RU defense that held the Huskies to just 67 yards passing. This is the first league recognition for Greene this season.
Cincinnati quarterback Dustin Grutza was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week.
Monday marked the fourth straight week, that Rutgers has played a game, it has had at least one representative in the league's player of the week awards.
No. 15 Rutgers is idle this week before hosting No. 5 Louisville on Thursday, Nov. 9 at Rutgers Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
