Rice Earns Rivals.com All-America Honors

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Sophomore running back Ray Rice (New Rochelle, N.Y.) has been named a Second Team All-American by Rivals.com, the group announced today.
Rice, a finalist for the Maxwell Award presented to college football's player of the year, enters the final week of the regular season ranked fourth in the country in rushing, averaging 135.9 yards per game. He has scored 17 touchdowns on the year to tie for seventh in the nation in scoring at 9.3 points per game.
A Heisman Trophy candidate, Rice has rushed for 1,495 yards this season, establishing a new Rutgers single-season record for yardage. His 17 touchdowns rank second in school history.
The sophomore back has topped the century mark in rushing in 13 of 23 career games, including eight of Rutgers' 11 games in 2006. Rice has three 200-yard performances this season, including a career-best 225 yards and one touchdown at Pittsburgh. He owns the school record with four 200-yard rushing games - all on the road. Rice also matched a school-best with seven-straight games of 100 yards or more, dating back to last season.
He already ranks fifth at Rutgers in career rushing (2,615 yards) and ninth on the RU career charts in rushing touchdowns (22) through just 23 career games.
Rice is a three-time BIG EAST Player of the Week honoree this season. He earned National Player of the Week laurels twice in 2006.
