Dec 03 | Football
HOUSTON, Texas - For the first time in school history, Rutgers will appear in a bowl game for the second consecutive season as the Scarlet Knights officially accepted a bid to the inaugural Texas Bowl vs. Kansas State of the Big XII Conference. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET on Dec. 28 from Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas.
The Texas Bowl will be televised by the NFL Network.
The game vs. Kansas State (7-5, 4-4 BIG XII) marks the first-ever meeting between the two schools. Rutgers has played just three games in 137 seasons of football vs. Big XII competition.
"We're ecstatic about having Rutgers," Texas Bowl director David Brady said. "This is a top-15 team that was three yards away from a BCS game. We couldn't be happier to have them here. The fans of Houston will get a chance to see one of the top rushers in the country in Ray Rice and the National Coach of the Year, Greg Schiano."
The Scarlet Knights (10-2, 5-2 BIG EAST) are ranked 16th in the Associated Press Top 25 and 17th in the USA Today/Coaches Top 25.
Rutgers has won 10 games in 2006 for only the second time in Rutgers history. The Scarlet Knights finished tied for second in the BIG EAST Conference, its best conference finish in the 16-year history of the conference.
