PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers men's soccer player Nick LaBrocca (Howell, N.J.) was selected to participate in the 2007 Major League Soccer Player Combine, the league announced. LaBrocca is one of just 58 college seniors, and one of only 19 midfielders, selected to participate in the combine which will be held at Lockhart Stadium in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., from Jan. 5-8, 2007.
LaBrocca finished his career at Rutgers with 10 goals and 8 assists for 28 points, and missed just one start in 78 career games. In 2006, he started all 19 of RU's games and scored three goals, including RU's lone goal against No. 24 Rhode Island in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Nov. 11. LaBrocca also took 33 shots on the season, the third-highest total on the team. His play and outstanding leadership for the Scarlet Knights helped the team advance to the semifinals of the BIG EAST tournament and earn an at-large bid into the NCAA tournament. LaBrocca was also named to the All-BIG EAST second team and to the NSCAA All-Northeast Region's second team.
Coaches and general managers from all 13 MLS teams will attend the combine to scout the select group of college seniors prior to the 2007 MLS Superdraft, held on Friday, Jan. 12, in Indianapolis, Ind. The 2007 combine will separate all 58 players into four teams and feature doubleheaders on Jan. 5, 6, and 8. The list of this year's participants was determined by a panel of MLS coaches as well as Division-I coaches who represented all conferences that nominated and voted for players.
