EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ - Rutgers junior guard Quincy Douby had a game-high 28 points, but his game-tying three-point attempt in the finals seconds fell short and the Scarlet Knights dropped a 73-67 decision to Seton Hall on Sunday before a crowd of 12,583 at Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, NJ.
Douby, the BIG EAST's leading scorer, was 11-for-25 (.440) from the field with five three-pointers against the Pirates, adding four assists and a block.
Rutgers (13-9, 3-6 BIG EAST) fought back into the game with a 13-4 run late in the second half to pull within a point at 66-65. Douby and Farmer opened the run with three pointers on consecutive possessions for Rutgers and newly inserted Frank Russell put back a Douby miss, followed by a Douby driving floater and three-pointer with three minutes to go to set up the finish.
Seton Hall's Kelly Whitney, who finished with 20 points, gave the Pirates (14-6, 5-3 BIG EAST) a five-point lead with consecutive jumpers to make it 70-65, before RU junior guard Marquis Webb cut the lead to three with a jumper for the Scarlet Knights.
Down, 70-67, Rutgers came up with a big defensive stop with under minute left as Russell blocked a Pirate's shot and RU took possession. The Scarlet Knights worked the ball around and found Douby open at the top of the key, but his three-point attempt fell short with 36 seconds remaining and Seton Hall grabbed the rebound and secured the victory.
Joining Douby in double figures for the Scarlet Knights was Webb, who finished with 11 points on 5-for-7 (.714) shooting from the field. Freshman guard Anthony Farmer had nine points and five assists for RU. ?? ??
Freshman forward JR Inman played only 17 minutes against the Pirates after aggravating a leg injury. He scored seven points, adding four rebounds a pair of blocks before going to the sidelines.
Rutgers matched its third-best shooting percentage from the field on Sunday, shooting 51.9 percent (27-for-52) from the field, including 42.1 percent (8-for-19) from three-point range.
Seton Hall took a 41-32 lead into halftime led by Jamar Nutter's 16 points in the first period. He finished the contest with a team-high 22 points. ??
With the victory, Seton Hall avenged an 82-78 loss to Rutgers back on Jan. 7.
Rutgers will travel to South Bend, IN, to face Notre Dame on Wednesday. The game will tip off at 7:30 p.m. and air on ESPN Classic.

DOUBY TOPS 20 FOR 15TH TIME IN 19 GAMES
Junior guard Quincy Douby topped the 20-point mark for the 15th time in the past 19 games with 28 points against Seton Hall on Sunday. It marked his 28th career 20-point game. He has scored in double figures in 28-straight games, dating back to last season. For the week, Douby averaged 34.5 points per game, also scoring a career-high 41 points at Syracuse on Wednesday.
DOUBY ENTERS TOP-25 IN SINGLE-SEASON SCORING
Junior guard Quincy Douby increased his season scoring total to 525 points with 28 points against Seton Hall on Sunday. He moves into the top-25 on the Scarlet Knights’ single-season scoring list, tied with John Battle (1983-84) for 21st place.
With five three-pointers against the Pirates, he moved into a tie for seventh place on the RU single-season three-point field goals list with 72. His mark equals Donnell Lumpkin’s total during the 1992-93 season and Jerome Coleman’s total during the 2002-03 season.
DOUBY TAKES SOLE POSSESION OF 22ND IN ASSISTS, 19TH IN BLOCKS
Douby also finished with four assists, increasing his career total to 217 assists. He moved into sole possession of 22nd place on the school’s all-time assist chart. Douby entered the game tied with Hollis Copeland (1974-78) and Kevin Black (1979-83) with 213 assists.
Douby also took sole possession of 19th on the Rutgers all-time blocks list with one block against the Pirates on Sunday. He now has 54 career blocks, taking over sole possession from Rob Hodgson (1995-99).
RUTGERS MATCHES THIRD-BEST SHOOTING PERCENTAGE OF SEASON
Rutgers matched its third-best shooting percentage of the season from the field on Sunday, shooting 51.9 percent (27-for-52) from the field, including 42.1 percent (8-for-19) from three-point range. The Scarlet Knights also shot 51.9 percent against Charlotte on Dec. 22. RU’s best shooting percentage of the season was 57.6 percent against Delaware State on Nov. 22, followed by a 53.0 effort against Maine on Dec. 15.
INMAN ENTERS TOP-20 IN SINGLE-SEASON BLOCKS
Freshman forward JR Inman, who scored seven points and recorded four rebounds in 17 minutes of action, had a pair of blocks against Seton Hall on Sunday. He moves into a tie with Steve Perry (1983-84) for 19th place on the Rutgers single-season blocks list. Inman is tied with Alvydas Tenys (197-2000) for 24th place on the school’s career block charts with 42.
JOYNES POSTS DOUBLE-DIGIT REBOUNDS FOR FITH TIME THIS SEASON
Junior center Byron Joynes hauled down 10 rebounds against Seton Hall on Sunday, marking the fifth time this season and third time in the past five games he has had at least 10 rebounds. He leads the team in rebounding, averaging 6.2 rebounds per contest for the season.
