Rutgers Gymnasts Receive All-America Honors

ITHACA, NY - Four Rutgers gymnasts earned first-team All-America honors at the 2006 USAG Collegiate National Championships on Saturday, April 15, on the campus of Cornell University.
Juniors Lorena Johnson (Lilburn, GA) and Casey Santangelo (Cherry Hill, NJ) along with senior Gina Roselle (Tinton Falls, NJ) received first-team All-America certificates in the balance beam competition. Johnson was the runner-up in the event, scoring a 9.700, while Santangelo posted a 9.675 to take third place. Roselle finished in a tie for fifth place with a 9.550.
In the floor exercise, junior Beth Fittery (Denver, PA) was named first-team All-American after scoring a 9.600 to finish in seventh place.
Rutgers capped its season with a 13-9 overall record and a 1-5 mark in East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) competition. The Scarlet Knights finished sixth at the 2006 NCAA Northeast Regional held in Ann Arbor, MI, on Saturday, April 8. Rutgers also finished seventh at the 2006 East Atlantic Gymnastic League Championship and concluded the regular season with four gymnasts collecting post-season accolades.
Fittery was tabbed the EAGL Scholar Athlete of the Year, while Northcutt and Johnson were each selected to the All-EAGL Vault second team and Roselle was picked for the second team All-Balance Beam. Rutgers also led the league with 16 gymnasts being named to the EAGL All-Academic Team.
