PISCATAWAY, NJ - Future recipients of the Rusty Swartz Memorial Scholarship Fund at Rutgers University will be the beneficiaries of a concert featuring Vito Picone & the Elegants, Butch Barbella's Street of the Bronx Band and the musical comedy of Andre and Cirell. The concert will take place at 8:00 pm on Saturday, May 6 at nearby Edison High School.
The Rusty Swartz Memorial Scholarship provides financial aid to student-athletes from New Jersey who are members of the Rutgers University football team. The scholarship gives preference to student-athletes who have graduated from Edison High School and, secondarily, to residents of Middlesex County.
Rusty Swartz was a Rutgers University football letter winner who graduated in 1997. Swartz died tragically in a boating accident in September of 1999. The Rusty Swartz Memorial Scholarship Fund continues to be funded by family, friends, teammates, and fans as a means of recognizing and remembering the impact he had on the many lives he touched.
