PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Penn's Meghan Rose scored 20 seconds into overtime as Rutgers (3-8, 0-2 BIG EAST) lost to the Quakers, 2-1, at the Rutgers Stadium Complex.
The Scarlet Knights' only goal was scored on a penalty corner by Amy Lewis (Hainesport, N.J.) late in the first half, assisted by Corinne Bach (Moorestown, N.J.) and Kristen Johnson (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.). Lewis leads the team with 12 goals this season. Penn's first goal was on a breakaway by Nicole Black in the first half.
The loss spoiled a solid game for junior goalie Rosalyn Wentko (Princeton Junction, N.J.), who made 10 saves. Penn attempted 21 shots, while Rutgers made six shots.
Even with the loss, head coach Liz Tchou was proud her team played into overtime.
"We put ourselves in an opportunity to win," Tchou said. "To go in at the half 1-1, I was pretty happy about that."
Bach thought it was a hard fought battle, and was happy with how Wentko played.
"Rosalyn's phenomenal," Bach said. "She's a leader of our team. She's been keeping us in these games."
The next game for the Scarlet Knights is on Tuesday, Sept. 26, when the team hosts St. Joseph's at 8:00 p.m.
