NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. - A record-breaking performance from senior outside hitter Lora Yankauskas (Paramus, N.J.) was not enough to propel the Rutgers volleyball team (4-9, 1-2 BIG EAST) past BIG EAST opponent Pittsburgh (13-5, 2-1 BIG EAST), as the Scarlet Knights fell to the Panthers 3-0 (31-33, 26-30, 18-30) on Saturday, Sept. 30, at the College Avenue Gymnasium.
Yankauskas poured in match-high 18 kills to go along with a team-best nine defensive digs. Her 18-kill outing was of greater significance because it gave her over 1,000 kills for her career and placed her seventh on Rutgers' all-time kills list with 1,011.
Sophomore Amanda Meyer (Naperville, Ill.) also contributed to Rutgers' offensive attack with nine kills, while junior Mallory McEnroe (Grand Rapids, Mich.) chipped in seven kills for the Scarlet Knights. Sophomore Roxy Calder (Oceanside, Calif.) handled all of RU's duties at setter as she posted 39 assists in the match.
Meyer was also strong on the defensive end as she recorded five total blocks (one solo, four assists). Senior Jocelyn Greenwald (Old Tappan, N.J.) was second on the squad with eight digs, followed by freshman Stephanie Moore (Dallas, Texas) with seven.
Rutgers will return to action on Sunday, Oct. 1, to face the West Virginia Mountaineers, at 2:00 p.m., at the College Avenue Gymnasium.
