Rutgers Wrestling Team Releases 2006-07 Schedule

PISCATAWAY, NJ - The Rutgers wrestling team has released its schedule for the 2006-07 season. For the seventh-consecutive season, the Scarlet Knights will open up at the Oklahoma-Brockport Gold Tournament in Brockport, NY. The event will be held Saturday, Nov. 11, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
The following weekend, Saturday, Nov. 18, the Scarlet Knights will travel to Annapolis, MD to compete in the Navy Classic with action to begin at 9:00 a.m.
On Friday, Dec. 1, Rutgers will compete in its first dual match of the year, traveling back to Annapolis, MD to take on Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA)-opponent Navy. Match-time is set for 7:00 p.m. The Scarlet Knights will compete that following Sunday, Dec. 3, at the Penn State Open in State College, PA, with competition beginning at 8:00 a.m.
The Scarlet Knights will host their home opener at the College Ave. Gym on Saturday, Dec. 9, against the University of Maryland at 5:00 p.m. On Tuesday, Dec. 12, the team will wrestle Princeton University at the College Ave. Gym at 7:00 p.m.
Rutgers will begin the 2007 portion of its season on the road, traveling first to Franklin & Marshall College on Saturday, Jan. 6 to wrestle the Diplomats at 2:00 p.m. The Scarlet Knights will then travel to East Stroudsburg University on Tuesday, Dec. 12, for an EIWA match-up with the Warriors at 7:00 p.m.
On Sunday, Jan. 14, the Scarlet Knights will return to the College Avenue Gym for a home EIWA match against Army and the United States Marine Merchant Academy with action scheduled to begin at 2:00 pm. The following weekend, Saturday, Jan. 20, the team will travel to Providence, RI, to face-off against EIWA-opponent Brown University. The match is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
The Scarlet Knights will host a dual-quad meet with Boston, Delaware State and NYU on Saturday,
Jan. 27, with the first match scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. start. Rutgers will welcome Rider University to College Avenue Gymnasium on Wednesday, Jan. 31 at 7:00 p.m.
Rutgers will travel to Washington, D.C. on Sunday, Feb. 4, to take on American University, an EIWA opponent, at 12:00 p.m.
The final home match of the season will be against Sacred Heart University on Wednesday, Feb. 7 at 7:00 p.m.
To close out the regular season, Rutgers will wrestle two matches on the road. On Saturday, Feb. 10, the Scarlet Knights will travel to Bethlehem, PA to take on perennial national powerhouse Lehigh University at 3:00 p.m. The following week, on Thursday, Feb. 15, Rutgers will travel to Drexel University for a non-conference match-up with the Dragons at 7:00 p.m.
The 2007 EIWA Championships will be held at East Stroudsburg University Friday, March 2, and Saturday, March 3, with winners advancing to the NCAA Division I Championships March 15-17, in Auburn Hills, MI.
The Scarlet Knights, in their 16th season under head coach John Sacchi were 7-9 during the 2005-06 campaign. Rutgers finished 10th at the EIWA Championships and had a 3-5 mark against conference opponents during the regular season. Junior Steve Adamcsik led Rutgers, earning a trip to the 2005 NCAA Championships at 141 pounds, finishing the season with a record of 28-8. As a team, the Scarlet Knights posted a third-place finish at the 2005 Navy Classic and were sixth at the 2005 Oklahoma-Brockport Gold Tournament.
