PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers senior place-kicker Jeremy Ito (Loma Linda, Calif.) was the recipient of the Master Coaches Award MCS Nike Game Ball for his efforts in the Scarlet Knights' 30-27 victory over then-No. 2 USF on Oct. 18.
Ito, who also handles the Scarlet Knight's punting duties, executed a fake punt on his first attempt which resulted in a 36-yard reception to senior wide receiver James Townsend (Delran, N.J.) and a Rutgers first down. Ito capped off the drive with his first of three field goals on the night - a 26-yarder.
Against the Bulls, Ito connected on three of four field goals, including a season-long 51-yarder, which proved to be the decisive score in the three-point victory. In addition, he was a perfect 3-for-3 in PAT's.
For the season, Ito is 12-for-16 in field goals and 100 percent on PATs, hitting all 31 of his attempts. He is also perfect from 40 yards or under this season, going 9-for-9.
Rutgers' all-time leader in field goals (69) and points (347), Ito is currently tied for the lead among active players in the NCAA in career field goals and points. He is also first in BIG EAST record books in field goals and second in points. With his next field goal, Ito will become just the 19th player in NCAA history to record 70 field goals.
The No. 25 Scarlet Knights will return to action for a nationally-televised BIG EAST clash against No. 6 West Virginia on Saturday, Oct. 27. The game, scheduled for a 12:10 kickoff, will air on ABC with Brad Nessler (Play-by-Play), Bob Griese (Color Analyst), Paul Maguire (Color Analyst), and Bonnie Bernstein (Sideline Reporter) calling the action.
