NOTRE DAME, Ind.  - The Rutgers University volleyball team fell into an early hole and couldn't recover as the Scarlet Knights fell to Notre Dame 3-0 in a BIG EAST match Saturday afternoon at the Joyce Center.
Justine Stremick and Adrianna Stausik each hit over .500 for the match in leading the Irish (7-8, 3-2 BIG EAST) to the 30-16, 30-18, 30-20 victory. Stremick finished hitting at a .706 clip.
Sophomore Kyra Thompson (Tucson, Ariz.), who had posted double-doubles in four of RU's last five matches, led the Scarlet Knights with eight kills and was second on the team with eight digs. Sophomore Jamie Godfrey (Rahway, N.J.) led Rutgers (3-11, 1-4 BIG EAST) with a team-high 11 digs.
Notre Dame posted its season best .433 attack percentage, while the Scarlet Knights hit .052. The Irish also recorded five more blocks and 12 more digs than RU.
Rutgers will be back in action tomorrow as the Scarlet Knights travel to Chicago, Ill. to take on conference foe DePaul at 2 p.m.
