Rutgers Volleyball Drops Match to DePaul

CHICAGO, Ill.  - Sophomore Kyra Thompson (Tuscon, Ariz.) posted her fifth double-double of the season, but it wasn't enough as the Rutgers University volleyball team fell to BIG EAST foe DePaul 3-0 (30-18, 30-28, 33-31) Sunday afternoon at the McGrath Arena.

Thompsonrecorded a team-high 15 kills and tied for the team lead in digs with 10 to pace Rutgers. With the loss, the Scarlet Knights fall to 3-12 overall and 1-5 in BIG EAST play.

The Blue Demons (5-13, 1-4 BIG EAST), who had dropped their last eight matches, were led by three players who posted double figures in kills including Charla Drabant who tallied a match-high 21.

DePaul dominated the first game as they hit .421 and captured the set 30-18.

The Blue Demons took a 17-10 lead in the second game, but the Scarlet Knights would not go away and pulled to within one at 22-21 on an Amanda Meyer (Naperville, Ill.) kill.  DePaul would not surrender its lead though and won the game, 30-28, on a Jacie Fiedler kill.

Rutgers responded out of the intermission and led for much of the third game, but the Blue Demons battled back and tied the game at 29-29. DePaul would take its first lead at 30-29, but a Thompson kill would square the game at 31-31. The Blue Demons would seize the next two points though, as a Kate Letcher kill would wrap up the match for DePaul 33-31.

Rutgers will return home next weekend to take on Connecticut on Saturday, Oct. 13 at the College Avenue Gym at 2 p.m.
