"Gina DeMaio is one of the most talented players in the BIG EAST," said head coach Glenn Crooks. "The thing I love about Gina is that she wants the ball in big moments. She is a soccer junkie who has been a key member of our midfield the past two seasons. It is refreshing to know that Gina still has two more years in the program."
Ryan, a redshirt senior, served as co-captain for the third consecutive year. She was a key part of a defense that shut out 10 opponents during the season. On Oct. 24, she was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week and also to the Soccerbuzz Elite Team of the Week for her role in the Scarlet Knights' victories over St. John's (1-0) and Syracuse (2-0).
"Meg has been the backbone of our defense since she emerged as a starter four years ago," said Crooks. "She has overcome any deficiencies with a dedicated work ethic and has been a great leader in our program. Meg deserves everything she gets because of her commitment."
The Scarlet Knights, who finished 9-9-3, 4-5-3 in conference play, have an outside chance of making the NCAA Tournament. The selections will be made on Monday, Nov. 12, between 8:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on ESPNEWS.
