Kennedy Sets BIG EAST Championship Record Time

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - The Rutgers men's and women's swimming and diving teams wrapped-up their second day of competition at the BIG EAST Championships in Hempstead, N.Y. The day was highlighted by freshman Madison Kennedy's Championship record time of 22.45 in the 50 free.
Kennedy was RU's top finisher on the day as she captured first in the 50 free with her time of 22.45, a BIG EAST Championship record. The women's team had several top-10 finishes on the day in addition to Kennedy's first-place showing. The 200 free relay team of Alex Allen, Kasey Kesses, Ashley Dunphy, and Kennedy took third (1:31.99). Shayna Longacre took seventh in the 200 IM (2:05.57), while teammate Kim Case placed eighth in the 500 free with her time of 4:53.82.
On the men's side, the 200 free relay team of Eric Lane, Robert Daplyn, Steve Miller, and Robert Horton took seventh (1:22.96). Daplyn also went on to take eighth in the 500 free with his time of 4:35.08. In the 200 IM, Josh Griffey placed eighth (1:51.61), while teammate Miller took 11th (1:51.35).
On the men's one-meter boards, Andre Watson finished the day in fifth with a final score of 302.20. On the women's one-meter boards, Erin Saunders was RU's top finisher as she captured fourth with a final score of 244.40.
After two days of competition, the women's team stands in third place with a team score of 181. Notre Dame holds the number one spot with a sore of 286. On the men's side, Rutgers also stands in fifth place with a score of 127. West Virginia stands in first with a team score of 273.
Competition will resume tomorrow with the 400 medley, 400 medley relay, 100 butterfly, 200 free, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke, and three-meter diving finals being completed. The Championships will conclude on Saturday, Feb. 17.
