Cameron Signed by Miami FC

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Former Rutgers men's soccer player Sean Cameron (North Brunswick, N.J.) was one of four players signed by Miami FC of the A-League in late January. Cameron joins former RU player Nick LaBrocca as the second Scarlet Knight to be signed by a professional soccer team following the 2006 season.

Cameron, who transferred to Rutgers from the University of Connecticut in 2005, started 34 of the 35 games in which he played during his two seasons at RU. The defender started 17 of 18 games during his senior season in 2006, finishing with one goal and two assists as a back. His play on defense helped hold opponents to a 0.78 goal-per-game average and he was part of a defensive effort that held No. 4 West Virginia goalless in Rutgers' BIG EAST semifinal game.

FC head coach Chiquinho de Assis was excited about the four players added to his team's 2007 roster.

"The interesting thing about our new players is their versatility," he said "Sean Cameron, for example, is in impeccable physical condition and can play many positions."

Miami general manager Luiz Muzzi echoed de Assis's sentiments.

"We are extremely happy to bring these professionals to play for Miami FC," he said. "These players'?will transform our team into a leading candidate to win the title this year."

Miami finished its inaugural 2006 season with an 11-11-1 record and will welcome back seven players from that squad. The team will open the 2007 campaign on April 15 against the Virginia Beach Mariners.
