Rutgers Field Hockey to Take Part in Spring Tournament

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - TheRutgers University field hockey team will join six other squads'Fairfield University, Hofstra University, Monmouth University, Quinnipiac University, the University of Rhode Island, and Sacred Heart University'at the second annual Model Cup Championship. The spring tournament will be played at Fairfield, Quinnipiac and Hofstra Universities on March 31, April 14 and April 21.
Full-field competition on March 31 will be held at Quinnipiac University and Hofstra University. Action on April 14 will take place at Fairfield University and will consist of seven-per-side games. The finals will then return to Quinnipiac for full 70-minute games on April 21.
At last year's inaugural tournament, Hofstra defeated Quinnipiac, 2-0. This year's field has been expanded by three teams to include Monmouth, URI and Rutgers.
At the conclusion of play on April 21, the Model Cup will be awarded to the championship club and an All-Tournament Team will be announced.
The 2006 Scarlet Knight field hockey team finished with an overall record of 6-12, including a 1-5 mark in BIG EAST play. Rutgers, a team without a single senior on its roster, did win its first BIG EAST match in two years, a 3-2 win over Georgetown on Oct. 6.

Each team will play each of the other tournament teams at their site twice for a total of six Games. All games will count in the seedings for the Model Cup Championships. Quinnipiac will be a DRY turf for the first round.
