PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Emma Chrystal (Portage, Mich.) has signed a national letter of intent to further her academic and athletic career at Rutgers University as a member of the volleyball team, head coach Orlando Gonzalez announced.
Chrystal, a 5-10 middle hitter from Portage Northern High School, was a four-year varsity letterwinner in both volleyball and golf. She was an all-conference and all-region pick following her sophomore and junior seasons. Chrystal also received all-state honorable mention as junior and was a Miss Volleyball nominee. She competed on the club level with Dunes Volleyball from 2001-05, helping guide her team to a runner-up finish at Asics and a fifth-place showing at the Southern California qualifier. Her club team also qualified for nationals in 2007.
A multi-sport athlete in high school, she also competed on the varsity tennis team. In addition, Chrystal was a 4.1 student, National Honor Society officer, member of the Latin Club and an all-academic team selection as a freshman.
"It is exciting to think about Emma wearing a Rutgers uniform next fall," said Gonzalez. "She brings with her a very high level of training and experience. She can do it all; she is very versatile. She represents the kind of student-athlete needed to run our system and we look for her to contribute very soon."
The Scarlet Knights concluded the 2006 season 5-20 overall and 2-12 in BIG EAST action.
