Rutgers Football Achieves Excellent Marks in the Classroom

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Rutgers football team posted a three-year NCAA Academic Performance Rate (APR) of 971, the best mark of any state university nationally and also the top mark of any BIG EAST football school.
Overall, Rutgers ranked seventh nationally amongst the 119 Division I-A football members.
"Our players do a tremendous job in performing at a high level - both in the classroom and on the football field," said Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano. "We take great pride at Rutgers in our academic achievement."
The Scarlet Knights finished the 2006 season 11-2 overall and ranked 12th in the final collegiate football rankings. Rutgers defeated Kansas State 37-10 in the inaugural Texas Bowl Dec. 28 at Reliant Stadium in Houston.
Rutgers returns 14 starters in 2007, including six players who earned All-BIG EAST honors in 2006. The Scarlet Knights open the season Thursday, August 30 vs. Buffalo at Rutgers Stadium.
