PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Incoming Rutgers freshman Khadijah Rushdan (Wilmington, Del.) is among 37 players invited to compete for a spot on the 2007 USA Basketball U19 World Championship Team at the 2007 USA Basketball Junior National Team Trials, which will be held May 17-20 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Following the trials at the U.S. Olympic Training Center, finalists will be named. The 37 players include 20 high school sensations and 17 college standouts.
Rushdan, a 5-9 guard, averaged nearly 22 points and 11 rebounds for St. Elizabeth High this year. In addition, she recorded six assists and five steals per game and capped her career as the state's all-time leading scorer with 2,414 points. Rushdan led the Vikings to the state championship in March and was voted the Co-Player of the Year by the Wilmington News-Journal. She was five-time first team All-State selection, the first Delaware prep player to achieve that feat.
The incoming Scarlet Knight was a key member of the U18 gold medal-winning team in the FIBA Americas Championship for Women last summer.
Rushdan averaged six assists per game as a member of the U18 National Team, the best overall mark in the tournament and the most assists by an American player in the event's history. The squad, which went 4-0 en route to the gold medal, qualified for the 2007 FIBA U19 World Championships in Bratislava, Slovakia which will be held from July 26 to Aug. 5.
