Rutgers Volleyball Signee Wins USA Junior Olympic Championship

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Incoming Rutgers freshman Emma Chrystal (Portage, Mich.) claimed the Girls' 18 American Tournament title at the 2007 USA Volleyball Junior Olympic Championships over the weekend in Minneapolis. Chrystal, a member of Dunes Volleyball Club, was also named to the 15-member all-tournament team.
Dunes Volleyball Club bested a field of 48 teams over 10 days to claim the title. Chrystal plays outside hitter for Dunes, which is based out of Michigan City, Ind.
Chrystal, a 5-10 middle hitter from Portage Northern High School, was a four-year varsity letterwinner in both volleyball and golf. She was an all-conference and all-region pick following her sophomore and junior seasons. Chrystal also received all-state honorable mention as junior and was a Miss Volleyball nominee. She competed on the club level with Dunes Volleyball from 2001-05, helping guide her team to a runner-up finish at Asics and a fifth-place showing at the Southern California qualifier. Her club team also qualified for nationals in 2007.
A multi-sport athlete in high school, she also competed on the varsity tennis team. In addition, Chrystal was a 4.1 student, National Honor Society officer, member of the Latin Club and an all-academic team selection as a freshman.
