USA Pan Am Squad Moves to 3-0 in Brazil

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil - Rutgers' Matee Ajavon and her U.S. Pan teammates posted a 78-63 win over two-time defending Pan Am champ Cuba late Sunday night.
Ajavon scored nine points in the win, adding three assists and a steal.
Cuba jumped out to an early seven-point lead to commence the contest. The U.S. took a 14-13 lead late in the first quarter on a field goal by UConn's Charde Houston. The Red, White and Blue squad built a 36-24 lead at the half.
On Saturday, the U.S. contingency rolled to an 85-54 win over Argentina. Ajavon had five points in the contest, going 2-for-2 from the free throw line. The Newark, N.J. added two rebounds, a steal and an assist to her line score.
The Pan American Games, began in 1955 on the women's side, are held every four years in the year prior to the Olympics and are open only to countries from FIBA Americas. The USA women have won six of 12 gold medals.
