The home team jumped ahead to a 2-0 advantage when Lewis took advantage, pushing back a rebound shot into the cage.
The Dragons had several opportunities in the first half, posting a 10-4 shot advantage over the Scarlet Knights. RU goalkeeper Rosalyn Wentko (Dallas, Pa.) registered five of her seven saves in the first stanza.
Carolina Gibernau cut the lead when the sophomore scored on a penalty shot at the 63:47 mark. Six minutes later and with 42 seconds remaining in the game, Drexel evened the match at 2-2. The goal scored off a penalty corner was credited to Sarah Gostomski after a flurry of passes.
RU sophomore Katie Feeley saw her shot stopped by Drexel goalie Colleen McAndrew less than two minutes into the extra period. Lewis had a good look at an open cage when McAndrew charged out, but saw her shot go wide. Her next attempt, however, was on the mark to lift Rutgers to the sudden overtime victory.
Rutgers returns to action Sunday evening, August 26 hosting West Chester at 7:30 p.m.
