Lewis Propels Rutgers Past Lafayette, 3-2

EASTON, Pa. - Junior Amy Lewis (Hainesport, N.J.) continued her scoring spree, registering two goals and sophomore Jessika Hoh (Allentown, Pa.) tallied the game-winner to lift Rutgers field hockey to a 3-2 win over Lafayette on Wednesday evening.
The BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week found the back of the cage at the 2:54 mark, the first score of the game. The Leopards answered with a goal from Maggie Condon tying the contest six and a half minutes into the match.
Condon put Lafayette ahead at the 26:40 mark as the Leopards enjoyed a 2-1 lead at intermission.
Five minutes into the second period, Lewis tied the contest at 2-2. Lewis scored off a penalty corner with assists credited to Kristen Johnson (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) and Cat Badolato (Berlin, N.J.).
The Scarlet Knights took the lead and the win just prior to the final horn. With 31 seconds left the contest, Hoh connected on her first goal of the year. Lewis assisted on the play.
Rutgers posted a 13-8 shot advantage, including a 9-2 margin in the second half. Leslie Kelly (Glassboro, N.J.) saw time in goal for the Scarlet Knights, posting four saves.
The Scarlet Knights move to 3-0 on the season, the best start since 2000. Rutgers continues its brief road swing, traveling to Amherst, Mass. on Saturday, September 1 for a 12:00 p.m. showdown with UMass.
