Rutgers Drops Season Opener at Michigan, 3-0

Ann Arbor, Mich. - The Rutgers University men's soccer team (0-1) lost its season opener to the University of Michigan by a score of 3-0 on Friday, Aug. 31 in Ann Arbor, Mich.
The Scarlet Knights were out-shot 11-3 by the Wolverines who scored a single goal in the first half and secured the victory with two more goals in the second half.
Senior Kevin O'Connor (Freehold, N.J.), and freshmen Dilly Duka (Montville, N.J.) and Mike Volk (Bear, Del.) managed Rutgers' three shots on the night, while senior goalkeeper Matt VanOekel (Chesapeake, Va.) recorded six saves.
The Scarlet Knights will conclude their two-game road trip against Oakland University at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 2.
RU returns to Piscataway for its home-opener Saturday, Sept. 8, against the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) at 7:00 p.m.
