Rutgers Drops 1-0 Decision at UMass in OT

AMHERST, Mass - Rutgers dropped a hard-fought contest to Massachusetts, 1-0 in overtime on Saturday afternoon at Garber Field. The loss is the first of the year for the Scarlet Knights.
Cher King netted the game-winning goal for UMass in the extra stanza.
Neither team took a shot in the game until 13 minutes into the contest. King's first attempt was blocked by Scarlet Knights goalie Rosalyn Wentko (Princeton Junction, N.J.).
Rutgers had its first opportunity come in the form of a penalty corner as Amy Lewis' shot was blocked. The shot on goal was one of only two on the day for RU.
After 70 minutes of scoreless action, UMass took the win 2:17 into overtime. Erin Parker streaked down the left side for UMass, drawing in the RU defense. King camped in front of the net to end the Scarlet Knights three-game win streak
RU took four shots on the afternoon, two each from Lewis and Cat Badolato (Berlin, N.J.). Wentko stopped five shots for the Scarlet Knights.
The Scarlet Knights next travel to Delaware next Friday, Sept. 7 for a 4:00 p.m. showdown.
