PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Kristie Lang (East Brunswick, N.J.) scored her third goal of the season in the second half to give the Scarlet Knights a 2-1 victory over Georgetown. On the game winning goal, Gina DeMaio (Parsippany, N.J.) made a nice move to get away from the defender and kicked the ball into the box, where Lang was able to gather it and drill it into the net.
"It is all about getting points," said head coach Glenn Crooks. "Three points for a win, one point for a tie, no points for a loss, and we needed three points today."
DeMaio also scored on a free kick in the first half, tying the game at one. The sophomore bent it like Beckham for her fourth goal of the season.
"Gina is a top player," said Crooks. "She is a free kick specialist. It is no surprise to me when she does something special. Playing midfield in the BIG EAST is difficult because there is a lot of wear and tear that comes with the position. Georgetown did everything they could do take Gina out of the game but she came through."
Stephanie Zare scored in the first half for the Hoyas, who fell to 8-3, 1-2 in the BIG EAST. Rutgers improves to 6-3-1, 1-1-1 in conference play.
The Scarlet Knights take to the road for their next game when they face the Princeton Tigers on Oct. 2 in Princeton, N.J. starting at 7:30 p.m. That game can be seen on CSTV.
