Each week during the season, readers can select their pick for USA TODAY's Player of the Week. Choices will be made available on Sunday night. The fan vote, open through noon ET on Tuesday, will comprise one-third of the award with one vote each also going to college football editor Erick Smith and Gannett columnist Mike Lopresti.
For the week of Labor Day, voting will stay open until noon ET on Wednesday.
THIS WEEK'S NOMINEES
″Sam Bradford' It was a great first start for Oklahoma's freshman quarterback, who was 21-of-23 for 363 yards and three touchdowns in the Sooners' 79-10 thumping of North Texas.
″Armanti Edwards' Appalachian State's quarterback led the Mountaineers to an unlikely 34-32 upset of Michigan, throwing for 227 yards and three touchdowns and running for 62 yards and another score.
″Marlon Lucky ' Nebraska got a big game from its running back in a 52-10 defeat of Nevada. Lucky carried 30 times for 233 yards and three touchdowns and added three receptions for 33 yards and another score.
″Craig Steltz' LSU's safety had three interceptions and three tackles as the Tigers blanked Mississippi State 45-0 and held the Bulldogs to 146 yards.
″Tiquan Underwood ' Rutgers' wide receiver had the second biggest receiving game in Big East history with 248 yards on 10 receptions while scoring touchdowns of 65 and 66 yards as the Scarlet Knights beat Buffalo 38-3.
FIVE WHO MISSED THE CUT
″Brian Brohm' It was a short night of work for the Louisville quarterback, who was 16-of-21 for 375 yards and four scores in an easy 73-10 defeat of Murray State.
″Tashard Choice' Georgia Tech's running back carried 26 times for 196 yards and two touchdowns as the Yellow Jackets beat Notre Dame in South Bend 33-3.
″Tyler Donovan' The senior quarterback helped Wisconsin open with a 42-21 defeat of Washington State by completing 21 of 29 passes for 284 yards and three touchdowns.
″DeMarco Murray' Oklahoma's freshman running back started his career with a bang, scoring five touchdowns and gaining 87 yards on the ground.
″Matt Ryan ' Boston College's quarterback completed 32 of 52 passes for 408 yards and three touchdowns to help the Eagles beat ACC rivals Wake Forest 38-28.
