EUGENE, Ore. - The Rutgers University volleyball team dropped its fourth straight match Friday night as the Oregon Ducks topped the Scarlet Knights 3-0 (30-11, 30-16, 30-13) at McArthur Court.
Rutgers, which dropped to 1-6 on the season, got a team-high seven kills from freshman Katie Groff (York, Pa.) and a team-high 10 assists from freshman Emma Chrystal (Portage, Mich.). Groff and sophomore Jamie Godfrey (Rahway, N.J.) tied for the team lead with six digs.
The Ducks (8-0) have yet to drop a game in 24 played this year. Sophomore Sonja Newcombe matched her season-high in kills with 13 to lead Oregon and junior Gorana Maricic posted 10 kills to reach double figures in kills for the eighth-straight match.
Overall Oregon hit .411, while holding the Scarlet Knights to a .053 attacking percentage. It marks the fourth time this season Oregon has held an opponent under a .100 hitting percentage.
Rutgers and Oregon will play again tomorrow at 7 p.m. as the Scarlet Knights wrap-up a three-match west coast road trip. RU will return to the College Avenue gym to take on Norfolk State in its home opener on Friday, Sept. 14.
