Rutgers-St. John's Men's Soccer Match Postponed

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Due to severe winds and rain blanketing the area, the men’s soccer match between Rutgers and St. John’s on Tuesday (Oct. 28) has been postponed. The game is rescheduled for Monday, Nov. 3 at 7:00 p.m. at Yurcak Field.
The Scarlet Knights are currently tied for fifth in the BIG EAST Conference standings with 11 points. Trailing them are Villanova (11 points), Syracuse (10) and Cincinnati (10). The four schools each have two league matches remaining with the regular-season concluding on Saturday, Nov. 1. St. John’s leads the Red Division standings with 20 points, followed by USF (19), DePaul (14) and Louisville (13). The top six teams in the each of the two divisions will advance to the BIG EAST Championships beginning on Nov. 5 at the campus sites of the highest seed.
Rutgers is coming off a crucial 2-1victory over No. 14 Louisville on Oct. 25. Freshman Robbie McLarney (Londonderry, N.H.) put the Scarlet Knights ahead in the 29th minute with his first collegiate goal, while classmate Gaetano Panuccio (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) added the game-winner in the 72nd minute. The Cardinals did manage to tally a goal in the 86th minute but it was too late as Rutgers held on for the upset win.
St. John’s, currently on a five-match unbeaten streak, earned a scoreless tie at DePaul in its most recent action on Oct. 25. The Red Storm are among the conference leaders with 26 goals and 22 assists on the season. The team is led by Nelson Becerra and Tafadzwa Chiduku who each have five goals. Becerra also leads the squad with four assists.
Rutgers’ senior class of McFadden, Ryan Breznitsky (Scotch Plains, N.J.) and Amir Haghshenas (Wyckoff, N.J.) will be honored in a ceremony prior to the 7:00 p.m. kickoff on Nov. 3 at Yurcak Field.
