PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Ed Cohen has been tabbed the voice of Rutgers women’s basketball, it was announced today by Director of Athletics Robert E. Mulcahy III. A native of Scarsdale, N.Y, Cohen has served as the play-by-play broadcaster for the Manhattan College basketball programs.
“I believe Ed will bring energy, enthusiasm and innovative ideas to the game broadcasts,” said head coach C. Vivian Stringer. “His professionalism and deep interest will become evident immediately. Without question, fans will come to identify him in no time at all with Rutgers women’s basketball. We are happy to welcome him to our family.”
Cohen, a 2005 graduate of Ithaca College, has extensive experience in the sports broadcasting field. He has provided play-by-play and highlights for NBA TV for the past three years and has served as a sideline reporter for the MSG Network’s high school sports coverage.
"I am extremely thrilled to have the opportunity to cover one of the best women's basketball teams in the country and to work with Coach Stringer and the rest of the program,” Cohen said. “With a great group of returning players and a landmark freshmen class, it is an exciting time at Rutgers and I am excited to be a part of it.”
At Manhattan, Cohen has called play-by-play for other Jasper sports, including baseball, softball, lacrosse and volleyball. He also is the host of the Manhattan College Basketball Weekly show, airing twice weekly on SNY TV during the basketball season.
Cohen has also worked at NBC Sports, Sirius NBA/NFL Radio and WNBC-TV, working closely with Channel 4 sportscaster Bruce Beck. He served as the voice of the Billings (Montana) Mustangs minor league baseball team, a Pioneer League affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds, this past summer. In 2007, Cohen announced nearly 70 games for the Burlington (NC) Royals in the Appalachian League.
The newest Scarlet Knight will continue to be the voice of the Jaspers.
Cohen adds, "I've really enjoyed my time at Manhattan and I'm thankful for their support in working with two great schools in the metropolitan area."
Mark Peterson, former Rutgers men’s player and current academic advisor for the women’s team, will continue to serve as the color analyst for Scarlet Knights women’s basketball radio broadcasts.
