PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Rutgers women’s soccer team (13-7-2) finished the season ranked in multiple national polls, including Top Drawer Soccer (No. 16) and National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas (No.21).
The Scarlet Knights were unranked heading into the NCAA Tournament, but then defeated No. 20 Penn State 2-1 in double-overtime and advanced past No. 7 Oklahoma State via penalty kicks to reach the Sweet Sixteen. In the third round of the tournament, RU fell to eventual Final Four participant No. 5 Stanford 1-0 in Palo Alto, Calif.
The No. 21 placement is the highest season-ending ranking since finishing the 2006 campaign No. 11. In 2009 the Scarlet Knights return NSCAA Second Team All-American goalkeeper Erin Guthrie (Sparta, N.J.), as well as NSCAA First Team All-Mid-Atlantic midfielder Gina DeMaio (Parsippany, N.J.) and NSCAA Second Team All-Mid-Atlantic defender Jenifer Anzivino (Middletown, N.J.).
